Live Tracking

The Highland Foundation for Wildlife fitted the latest model satellite transmitters to a breeding female Osprey and her two young in July 2007, and to a further five birds in the summer of 2008. As the birds fly to and from their Winter homes, you can catch their progress live on our tracking map.

What’s happened so far……

Since fitting tracking equipment to a number of Ospreys in 2007, the data has given a valuable insight into not only the migratory habits of these birds but also the pitfalls and problems they face on their marathon journeys to and from their winter homes.

The first bird to provide a full set of statistics was Logie, who became a star of the BBC Radio 4 programme World on the Move. Logie returned to her nest in the north-east of Scotland in the Spring of 2008 and produced two chicks, Glen and Moray. Sadly, Logie perished on her journey south that Autumn.

Several other birds have since been fitted with trackers, including Talisman – named in recognition of the company’s continuing support for the Highland Foundation for Wildlife’s Osprey programme.
