50 years ago, there was just one pair of ospreys in the UK – breeding at the now famous RSPB reserve at Loch Garten.
Now, thanks to major conservation efforts, this magnificent bird of prey is once again a regular sight in our skies. About 200 pairs breed in Scotland alone.
It’s been a major conservation achievement, but it’s been fraught with perils, from egg-poaching to the erosion of suitable environments.
And it’s only the start. For numbers to get back to what they should be, we should be thinking in terms of 2000 pairs across the UK, and 500 in Scotland.
That’s where Talisman comes in. And so can you. We’re supporting the Highland Foundation for Wildlife in continuing this important work – and you can get involved too.
