About Talisman

Talisman has been supporting the return of Ospreys to Scotland for five years.

Talisman contributes funding towards the work of Roy Dennis and the Highland Foundation for Wildlife – and to help with the programme involving environmental bodies, landowners, ornithologists and communities. Together we are working to reintroduce, study and protect this beautiful bird.

It’s just one of our environmental activities. We’re also actively involved in many other environmental projects some of which are featured in the film: Our Natural Home

These projects include our work with researchers based at the University of Aberdeen’s  Lighthouse Field Station on the shores of the Cromarty Firth. The Field Station provides a centre for research into seabirds and marine mammals including the Moray Firth’s celebrated population of bottlenose dolphins.

Another project featured in the film looks at our support for a tagging project which aims to improve our understanding of the ecology of water voles and how they interact with the environment. The water vole was once common in Scottish rivers but is now severely under threat from predatory mink.

And there is also a case study on our support for one of the longest running environmental studies in the UK where researchers from The University of Aberdeen are studying the breeding colony of fulmars on the small island of Eynhallow in Orkney. Data has been gathered here since the 1950s, and Talisman is now helping researchers to better understand how macro-environmental issues such as food availability and climate change impact on a single species.
